Pushing Myself out of My Comfort Zone

The decision of sharing my life experiences through a blog, was both scary and exciting.

The title of this article is very fitting since leaving my comfort zone is what I’m doing by creating this blog and, hopefully, manage to publish content on a regular basis. Maybe right now you’re thinking: “Relax, buddy, it’s only a blog.” Well, for me it’s more than that. It’s about creating a content calendar and sticking to it. It’s about English not being my native tongue. It’s about the fear of losing steam no sooner had I published my second article. It’s about the little voice in the back of my head, yelling: “You’re not a kid anymore”, “Don’t rock the boat at this age”, and last but not least, “You’ll fail miserably.”

How I ended getting myself in this predicament, you might ask.

My journey began by curating content and sharing it with friends and family on my LinkedIn account. In the process of doing so, I ran across a lot of articles that were really engaging and powerful. They stirred up something inside of me and I thought: “Hmm, that must be the writing bug trying to bite me,” but I discarded the idea for the time being. After all, most of the pieces that had caught my attention had been written by individuals with backgrounds in Journalism and Communications. Besides, what was I’m going to write about, 10 Reasons Why My Family Shouldn’t Touch the Thermostat?

I kept scouring the Web in search of articles worth sharing, until one day I watched a video from motivational speaker Mel Robbins, with the title “Someone in the world needs to hear what YOU have to say” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzVCm4QTpjY In the 1:25 minute video, Robbins introduces us to the wise words from Braxton, his yoga instructor: “There is something inside of you, a life lesson, a story, wisdom, something that you are meant to share with the world.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My heart skipped a beat. I kept watching and when she got to the part that follows, I got goosebumps: “There’s something inside of you that somebody is searching for and your job is to find the courage to get out of your comfort zone and share your story and share your wisdom and show up in bigger ways.”

That did it. Right there and then I decided that I was going to create a blog in order to share my life experiences: raising a family, jobs I’ve held, regrets, sad and happy moments, and lessons learned. If just one of the many messages I’m planning on putting out there, reaches one person, then my job will be done. Well, let’s see how this turns out. As Julius Cesar said when he crossed the Rubicon River: “Alea Jact Est” (The Die is Cast).☼
